Category rankings explained

I could not find in Knowledgebase how the category rankings I see on my author page work.  Obviously, it is based on PVs but over what time period.

Dear Abby,

I am trying to reach someone in Support. I logged in today for the first time in several months, and after choosing an analysis article, I was told that I reached the free article limit. This happened on the first article! Can you please look into what is going on or reset the counter?
