Forcing me to pick User Name

It says my User name Kabul_Phil is taken. YES IT IS BY ME and it was that when I first signed up to use SA many years ago. I stopped actively using it and may have changed email addresses, but when I entered the only old email address not in use it is not recognized, so I will assume the email address I am using now IS the email address I used to sign up years ago. Why is there no tech support for SA. This has to be the only site on the web that does not offer a method to contact tech support.
