cannot follow author

Tried to follow Daniel Nevins today.  Looks like the link at the bottom of the 29 Nov article is dead.  Found no other way to enable following.  What next?

Go directly to the author's page and click the "Follow" button on top.

I don't see a follow button anywhere on any SA article - what happened to it? No follow button on author's profile page either.
