Hi,

Thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, we do not have any static number to give you as it is dynamic as per your usage.

We do notify the member of when they are close to reaching their limit and when they have reached their limit with the following banners:

If you want to keep reading past the limit, you can just go ahead and start your free two-week trial of Seeking Alpha Premium - no commitment required.

Premium, apart from providing you unlimited access to analysis articles also provides you with many other powerful tools that can help you with your investing. You can get an overview of the service here.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out in case further assistance is required.

This answer is really inadequate. I, like others, have suddenly started encountering the "free article limit" just now, despite the policy change supposedly having happened almost 2 years ago.

1) I received no notification that I was about to hit my limit.

2) A "dynamic" limit that is a black box for users makes it impossible to plan which articles to prioritize reading. If I knew that I had, say, 100 articles a month I would be choosy about which ones to click. If I only have 2 articles a month I would be choosier (well, honestly I would just quit Seeking Alpha altogether).

3) When does the article counter reset? I was away from a computer from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10, and then immediately hit the limit. So apparently the beginning of the month isn't when the counter resets?

4) The fact that this free-article cut-off suddenly happened to a lot of folks at the same time makes it seem that you must have changed the algorithm recently, beyond what ever you did in January 2021. Could you at least be up front about the fact that there was a recent change? Or did something happen accidentally?

I would appreciate some straightforward answers about how much content I am able to access each month under the basic (free) Seeking Alpha service.

Thanks for the more detailed reply Charlie Loeb.  I encountered the same problems you did.  All of a sudden, I received the notice that I have reached my limit on free articles.  No notice, no nothing.  This is crazy.  Will look for another source and post here.

I’m the same boat. Suddenly cut off. I doubt anybody who is reading this can make a difference but people came to SA as much for the comments as the articles. I see the engagement draining  and at the price they are asking I will be helping with that drain by exiting the platform after many years

Great reply. Same thing happened to me. I do like and follow some authors but not enough to pay the forced SA subscription to read them further.

Why would I $$$ pay for a service that arbitrarily changes the ground rules, applies arcane 'rules' without any notification(s), then further exacerbates the issue by claiming that your new guideline(s) are no guidelines at all, its an algorithm based upon some nefarious unknown scribbles on a yellow lined tablet in some dark, dank cubbyhole of an office in another part of the world.  It is a shame, you had an opportunity to become a leader, rather than an also ran.  We will see what happens when the authors continuously lose their subscriber base to their blog posts and comments become irrelevant.  Perhaps some day, you will have your policies published so that people can make an educated decision to either pay for your service or not, to judge and not be judged, and not be subjected to whimsical 'updates' to unwritten and undefined 'paywall policies.'

what the heck???? it's like i'm locked out of SA. this is ridiculous. I thought some articles were premium and some were free. now it's saying i've reached a free article limit. I was never notified I was approaching said limit, and nobody told me how many articles I have for free. This is ridiculous. Who is going to pay for this crap?
