WBA wrong revenue information

Hi there,

I usually check the companies' financial data on another website and visit SeekAlpha to check a few ratios. Sometimes I come across data differences but never really dug into them. Today I decided to do it and found out what seems to be an error in SeekAlpha.

The revenue from WBA in 2019 and 2020 is showing on SeekAlpha website as 120,071 and 121,982 respectively however, their annual reports show it as 136,866 and 139,537

2019 revenue reported (page 38): https://seekingalpha.com/filings/pdf/13703317
2020 revenue reported (page 41): https://seekingalpha.com/filings/pdf/14443735

Other websites (Morningstar, Yahoo Finance) show the revenue in these years as 136,866 and $139,537 (which seems to be correct), however, Seekalpha and Guru Focus, show it as 120,071 and 121,982, which seems to be wrong. And it's a big difference!

Is it an error in SeekAlplha?

Cheers,

Marcio

Hi there,

This is not an error. Our data vendor undertakes normalisation of financial data to make financials common size and comparable between firms, which may differ from individual financial statements of companies. The reason for the difference is the normalisation that has been undertaken.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out in case further assistance is required.

So SeekAlpha's data normalization ends up increasing the reported revenue by more than 13%? This is quite a substantial increase which highly affects valuation models.

Personally, I think it's an error. The company reports X and you show Z. I will have to stop using SeekAlpha as I don't find the data is reliable.
