Same problem. I click on bell icon, it briefly says I have new comment(s), then it disappears and goes blank. Been doing it all day.

Still can't access comments using the bell -----> comments/messages dropdown tool as of 2:40 CDT. However, I found that if I click on my profile and go to my own comments, then I can access new comments on articles I'm following by clicking on the bell icon, as normal. Just mentioning this in the hope it will help some IT person figure out what's wrong, if anyone is actually on the case.
Chromebook -- two of them, in fact. Does it on both of them. Using whatever the latest Chrome OS is via auto update. Still doing it at 2 a.m. Friday. Can't access any comments from home screen.
I am not using an "app." I am using the Chrome browser on a Chromebook, just as I have been doing without this issue for 5 or more years.
