Clearing multiple messages improperly

When I go to the notifications and messages, and there are two or more messages where my name has been given, and I click on one message to see the content, the other message(s) are cleared and I can no longer see them.  And I know of no place to go to see my last ten messages, seems like they are all gone at that point.
