short-circuited link from email to website -- anomalous error message

When trying to load an article for which I have received an email from you -- something I do a hundred times a day -- I now receive an error message (401 error - authorization required). When in response I enter my username and password -- each of which I have confirmed on your website itself -- I receive a repeat of the prompt with no other details.
