why do I need to sign in if I am not using the PRO section?

Very often I try to access a Seeking Alpha story from another financial site or even the Seeking Alpha homepage. I get to read the first page and then I get forced to sign in to read the rest. Why? There aren't any charges/fees for a number of the stories unless they're under 'Pro' so other than it being very annoying what is the point ? I know that I can stay signed in but I shouldn't have to plus clearing cookies eliminates the continued sign in option.
