We are looking into this, it is likely related to the fact that in the latest update, we are no longer deleting articles from the Notification center on the phone. We are going to be moving away from using the notification tab/inbox in the app in the redesigned version (coming later this year) in favor of using the built in notification center in iOS. Appreciate your feedback
We changed the logic of notifications, and no longer auto-delete items when clicked from the notification center. I will look into whether these changes affected the icon.
We are about to make a release to fix this, it will be in slow rollout, but if you uninstall and reinstall the app on Sunday you will likely get the new release.

In the latest update, the notification number stays on the tab below and doesn't go away and it is very annoying.
I.e you click Notification tab, then click on portfolio tab. It stays there.
You have to click the new/author article then go back, then the number disappear. If there is like x20 notifications, I am not going to click 20 articles.
Issue on both iPad Air 2 and iPhone. Have tried uninstall and re installed.
