Please allow us to edit our comments.

The site was changed recently to prevent us from editing a comment after it has been posted, without submitting the proposed change to a moderator or bot or who-knows-what.  That makes it absurdly difficult to correct even simple typos.

I can't see how this is a good thing in any way.  Please allow us to edit our comments on our own.

After submitting a comment you can view and edit your comment right on the page as long as you don't refresh or leave the page.  This gives you an opportunity to fix up your typos and resubmit the comment yourself.  Once you leave the page, and come back later,  we require moderation to perform the edit.

You should not "require moderation to perform the edit".  That's treating your users like children.  I know of no other site that does this.

Not a bug

Larry- many sites (Twitter among them) do not allow for editing of posts once a small window of time has passed. This is because users could edit the original post significantly making the replies and reactions incoherent.
