Login very jumpy, and slow

At the home page, when I click "sign in" and start to enter my email address, there is so much Java running in the background that entering my email address is constantly interrupted, and halted for a few moments. I am amazed that you think there is any advantage to users by having so much Java running that basic steps like logging in are interrupted. This is very frustrating and serves no purpose whatsoever.
