Dividend payout ratios

Avatar

Dividend payout ratios are being shown incorrectly on preferred shares.  Since preferreds are typically in line ahead of the common to get their dividends, you should probably just supress that metric on preferreds.

If you insist on showing a payout ratio for preferreds, you should at least calculate it correctly.   You should not be calculating a dividend payout ratio on a preferred using the common earnings per share in the denominator.  You need to first calculate the annual earnings per preferred share.  Then you can divide the preferred annual dividend by the preferred annual earnings per share.
