For the quarter ending when?

Among the most useful pieces of information about an earnings report is what the ending date of the period is. For instance, given the progression of the pandemic, lockdown and reopening, one’s impression of earnings for the quarter ending May 31, might be very different from a similar company with the period ending June 30. Most of the time, knowing the period ending date is far more important than whether the report is for the first, second or third quarter. Yet I typically find that the ending date for the period is not in the SA summation, and I have to click on the “press release” to find out. Especially with the many delays in reporting granted by the SEC, you cannot assume the quarter ended 45 days earlier; you need to know when exactly the reporting period was.
