Can't view comments anymore.

Option Cruncher 1 year ago in Website updated by CozJ 1 year ago 16

In the past, after a couple weeks, some articles went to subscription only, but if I had comments on the article, I could still view all the comments. Now it shows me I have new comments, but it says you can only view them if you are a subscriber. If the intention is to make this a pay only site, that's fine, and I will move on to another website, but why should I add content when the article originates, and then be blocked from responses later on? If this is the intent of SA, it makes no sense for non-subscribers to add any comments/content, as it only adds value to the site/article, and one can't even see the responses later on.

We put in some fixes for this, please try again.

Please post details if you have problems clicking through from the notification inbox, I am getting reports of sporadic problems, but have not been able to pin it down completely or reproduce.

Yup...I'm in the same boat here. Very shady stuff if this isn't a bug in the system.

Yeah this is bullshittt. Someone just tagged me who I'be been in a steady exchange of comments and I now can no longer view or reply to his comment in which I have a dozen comments in the section already . This is very frustrating and should be rectified immediately.

At this point, if SA doesn't want to allow non-premium members to be able to use the comment boards, just put a paywall around the entire site and move on. Really destroys any value for non-premium users.

So I see I'm we're not the only ones this is happening to.

For now, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, and guessing it is a glitch. I spoke with someone else who isn't having the same issue, plus, I have stocks I have commented on that have like a dozen new comments I can't see, and most people aren't paying members. I sent them an email, and I suggest you guys do the same. If their intent is for this to be the new norm, I will just delete my account and move on.

How do you send them an email? Even that isn't immediately clear.

They seem to have made that difficult too. I sent it to support@seekingalpha.com. Not sure if that is still a good address, but it didn't get sent back, but also no reply.

i have been reporting this problem in different threads probably since November.  Its not all articles, but its becoming more and more.  Please put some effort into resolve this issue, because you never used to have it and now it happens all the time.

8675309.xyz,

Can you expand  a bit? Which problem with comments? The original issue here seems to be fixed. If you encounter the paywall issue again, please tell us more details such as the article, where you got the notification and what happened when you clicked.

Thanks,

Here is an exact example,  Buy Liberty Latin America At Its All-Time Low For 500% Returns In 5 Years (NASDAQ:LILA) | Seeking Alpha

This is an old thread, maybe in October or November time frame I would get alerts and click but I was just show the article is not available to me and show NO comments (even though I was alerted).  Visiting this specific article has occurred multiple times to the point that I am reluctant to click.  FYI, it seems the problem happen more on weekends.  I have made comments in feedback forum in the past for this very issue.  I jumped on this thread because I had a problem viewing comments from the above linked thread.  To give this example, I saw new comments in my notification and clicked.  Now I see the new green comment threading and even more strange is that the article is available to read in its entirety.   The article itself has not been available to read for a very long time.  If I had to offer my personal observance, it happens more over the weekend.  I don't think its ever happened on a news article just the time locked opinion pieces.  But this has been happening more and more often over the last several months.  Thanks and tell me what you would need if this is not specific enough.

Here is another article that I was alerted to for a new comment.

Peabody Energy Could Be Filing For Ch.11 Bankruptcy - Again (NYSE:BTU) | Seeking Alpha

I have not been able to read the comments that I had previously subscribed to.  I just clicked the comment notification link.  I am again able to read the comments, in addition the article is available to read which I believe should not be available to read (I would be happy if you guys let us read the article once we have subscribed, but its not been that way).  So I can read comments in articles I could not see last week, but now you are showing the article simply by clicking the new comment notification.  I would prefer what is happening right now, but I doubt you will keep it this way.  Thanks

Assured Guaranty: Domino Effect Gathers Pace Amidst Persistent Fall In Revenue And Income (NYSE:AGO) | Seeking Alpha

FYI, I did not subscribe or read this article when it was available.  It should be blocked, but I can now read comments and read the article that is about 9 months old.  I am sure you will block my access to articles and likely some comments soon.  Thanks for trying to resolve this issue.

Problem seems to be working now for me. I'll update if the problem reappears

If you want me to un-subsribe from Seeking Alpha, please send me a notice.

The subscriprion has become worthless to me.
