% change on my portfolio is NOT calculated with respect to the previous close total (i.e. yesterday close) but with respect to the historical cost

Yep, noticed the same thing. Both the mobile app and the website show a completely wrong "Today's % Gain Total". Appears to be "Today's Gain" / "Total Cost", which is incorrect.
