Black Friday Offer Arithmetic Mistake

Just had an email offer from SA for Black Friday.  You said it was a 50% discount on premium, but it is 33% ($180 sale price vs $240 normal price).  Given the type of website you run, it’s quite worrying you can’t work out that math.  If it gets to 50% ($120), I’d be interested.

Hi all,

Hope you are doing great.

Premium is at a 50% discount under the Black Friday offer as compared to the annual cost of the monthly subscription (i.e  $30*12 months = $360)

Hence, 50% off is $179 annually.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out in case further assistance is required.

I just received the same email. I clicked on contact to discuss the 50% error. I could not find a phone number.

I would like to do the premium but I don't want to give auto renewal. How can I talk to someone about paying for one year only.

Apparently, once you subscribe to Premium, you can go into your Account Settings and turn off the auto-renew option. I think that will discontinue your Premium subscription after one year unless you manually renew.

Another explanation is that SA increased their annual Premium subscription to $360/year ($30/month) and forgot to update the annual subscription amount in the fine print underneath. Having said that, if the Black Friday one-year introductory offer was for $120, I would subscribe.

Oh, okay.  IMHO it’s still a little disingenuous to use the monthly price when this is an annual subscription.  Benchmark should be the annual subscription of $240 if you’re comparing apples to apples.  I’m going to give it a pass, thanks.

Well said. And good point. Seeking Alpha's response comes off as Hucksterism. I too, wrote their "support" with specific questions about the Black Friday offer and instead of just replying to my email, they stuck my inquiry on a forum that no one at Seeking Alpha is likely to ever answer. There's no way I can purchase a subscription with customer service like that.

Since someone actually replied from SA, I'll try this post to suggest a 50% entry level subscription to SA. I've enjoyed reading articles for many years. But the only time I access the site now is through a referral link from ATrade. And that is only a few times a year (SA should know that access data better than I). So it is just not worth the yearly cost I use so little. I often just compare their write-ups to several other free site articles to make my calculations or catch a new perspective. I've never wanted anything for free that I find valuable. I regularly 'donate' to other apps and sites I find valuable. I think you would draw in many more young consumers at a lower price. And I always stay away from auto-withdraws of my accounts, no matter the company.

Not really sure why the 50% Black Friday offer considers $29.99 monthly subscription when in fact the link to SA Subscription offers clearly states the price is $ 19.99 a month billed annually : https://seekingalpha.com/subscriptions. That is just bad and deceiving practice. For that reason I will pass on your BF offer, thanks but I may take the business to MorningStar or other paid subscriptions.
