As of today when reading articles your advertising on the page is causing the web browser to goto you win something take over window ads. Chrome tries to defeat the pop up windows but it fails due to them being tricky. Basically you have an advertiser who is allowing crap on your website.

and please dont get into my cell phone is infected or something. I only install trusted apps.

Hello,

Thank you for the alert. It is possible that your phone is infected from another site, who has an infection from a bad ad network. At this point, we have not received any alerts from any of our anti malware/redirect providers. That being said, I am definitely not ruling out that it is coming from a rogue actor running through one of our advertising partnerships. Would you be able to provide any additional details, such as it is happening on any other sites? what type of device/browser you are using? what country are you in and if you could send a screenshot that would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance and many apologies if this bad experience is being generated from our platform.

This only happens on seeking alpha using my cell phone (android) on the full web desktop site. Samsung S10.

Chrome. Newest.

USA.

Verizon wireless or comcast internet with wifi.

It only started today.

Naturally it is intermittent depending on what is served ad wise on the page. I will get a screen shot when it happens again.

Phones getting infected from another site, when updated, is a super rare event. You are basically saying my phone was owned by visiting a website. That would be one mighty powerful hack to waste on ad crap.

What you mean to say is installing a bad app. DNS servers you are using are not trusted. Or simply visiting a website that allows ads which use javascript or whatever to redirect the page as they wish when conditions are met.

Now if my kids were installing all sorts of crap apps.. i would agree with you. But they are not. I am a network engineer who has worked for ISPs going on 20 years.. so I kind of know when bad ads are more then likely causing the issue as they sneak it in as often as they can get away with it. You will probably not see a ton of complaints as how I use the website may be a minority now days. I do not care for the mobile web page view or your app.

Thank you, I really appreciate the additional info. I don't mean from a bad, app, I mean a browser infection and that is not beyond the realm of possibility, but like I say I am going to do my due diligence and treat your alert as if it was definitely coming through our site. It's a moot point, but generally speaking these mobile redirect ad insertions are normally more common during weekends and national holidays as support teams are less likely to act quickly to nullify the issue.

Thanks again for your help.

Thank you for the quick response. If no one complains it will be difficult for you to determine if anything is happening. Lets see if others have the issue. I have surfed to several news items so far with no more pop up take over windows. It is intermittent like I said. I just get so annoyed by these people doing it that I wanted to let you know.

You are more than welcome and thank you for reporting it. As as user, I find these incredibly annoying as well, so I will do everything possible to make sure that any issue of this kind is resolved.
