Changed email address yesterday... but now I have 2 separate accounts with 2 separate logins.

Yesterday, I changed my email address from [email_1] to [email_2]. After I made the change, I logged out and tried to log in using [email_2], but was not able to. Today, I requested a password link associated with [email_2] and it sent me a confirmation email which appeared to set up a NEW account. Now, I have 2 separate accounts. I need the two accounts to merge.
