after updating my app It cannot fetch articles or data and seems to forget who I am after each stop/start of the app

Have you tried re-login?

yes. Each time I open the app on my phone I login successfully. And the login is not maintained between using the app

What about reinstalling the app?

Make sure to delete the app first.
