I didn't ask to follow this stuff.  And it is hard to reverse the signups.

Duplicates 2
A Seeking Alpha VP has signed me up to follow people without my consent or any understanding of my investment interests. I think that is really HORRIBLE!
Sleazy SA Team

I think it is pretty effing sleazy for the SA team to sign me up to follow people that I am not interested in following. If you have a new feature, then it is fine to let me know about it but do not ever sign me up without my permission.

Hi,

The addition of these 4 author follows should not impact any SA experience beyond the new "People" page and the author following newsletter (if you are subscribed). It does not sign you up for real-time author alerts on these authors.

You can unfollow these authors very easily here: https://seekingalpha.com/account/edit_authors

Regarding forum email alerts, you can stop getting them for a specific thread by clicking this button:

Thanks,

Daniel

What follows is the letter I wrote to Seeking Alpha before I came to this site today. But because they guard their e-mail address like the keys to Fort Knox, I was unable to send it. So I am here.

I am attaching  images. A copy of the text of my e-mail (since you don't seem to want us to paste into a comment), a copy of the top of the spam e-mail, and a copy of the bottom of the spam e-mail claiming that I requested this spam.

Seeking Alpha KNEW if they added "followed authors" to our accounts for us, that it would generate e-mails and texts. Pleas don't insult our intelligence by claiming otherwise

Thank you for the feedback! A few points of apology (!) and clarification:

- I apologize for the repeat messages. I didn't personally send the message multiple times -- I would NEVER have done that. There was a bug in our system which resulted in that. Our tech team has fixed the bug and deleted the repeat messages, but not before many users had seen them. I apologize for that -- it's really unpleasant to be hectored by a message being sent multiple times.

- I hear loud and clear your point about not making changes to users' accounts without their initiation, and I apologize for upset caused.

- To clarify a common misunderstanding: we did not sign anyone up for emails, this only impacts an area of the website which is new, and the accounts are only core Seeking Alpha accounts which we believe are an intrinsic part of our product, such as Wall Street Breakfast and Editors' Picks.

BULLPUCKY!!! You KNEW that most users were set to receive a text OR an e-mail when an author they followed published. You knew further, that all you needed to do was add the four "authors" in question to everyone's account as "followed authors" (even though we did NOT request this) and viola! We get your spam e-mails on a daily basis . And NOW to make matters worse, instead of owning up to your shenanigans, you insult our intelligence with your semantic B.S.

For you to sit there and claim ... "To clarify a common misunderstanding: we did not sign anyone up for

emails..." is the moral equivalent of you saying ... "I didn't shoot him! I just shot that piece of paper he was holding in front of his chest!" Don't be a Trump, start up a relationship with the truth! You displayed poor judgment and did something sleazy. Own it, apologize for it, and never do it, or anything like it again. You make money off our patronage. We deserve better!

Hi ShaleHead,

Users are not subscribed to the "People I follow" email by default and the vast majority of users who are subscribed to it, already follow authors and already get that email. However, I do understand how this can be annoying for users who never got this email in the past or only got it occasionally.

Thanks for the feedback!

I just went in and edited a lot of that too, there were several things that were turned on now that weren't before, and shutting them off SHOULD in theory make it a lot less spammy.

To answer the question in the message I received............

NO - No I do *not* 'value' having you add general feeds to my people list. I've followed who I want to read already. I'll add and subtract as needed. So, no thanks...
