First time since joining seeking alpha I’m Receiving a free article limit message for about a week now.Didn’t receive any email or notice about a change on the site and not sure if others are experiencing same issue or if it’s a glitch I’m experiencing.  If there is a new article limit how many is it and how/when does it reset?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out!

In order to continue providing our users with outstanding financial analysis and news, we changed our Paywall policy in January 2021.

You can read more about this change here: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4396836-important-update-for-seeking-alpha-users

The good news is that you can still access any article on any stock, even without a paid subscription, though there is a monthly limit to how much you can read.

This limit is dynamic to the individual member, based on the device they use, the traffic source, and a number of other parameters. It resets itself every 28 days
.

If you want to keep reading past the limit, you can just go ahead and start your free two-week trial of Seeking Alpha Premium - no commitment required.

Premium, apart from providing you unlimited access to analysis articles also provides you with many other powerful tools that can help you with your investing. You can get an overview of the service here.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out in case further assistance is required.

I don’t think they owe any explanation at all.  It is their site and they have every right to charge for it.  It would be the same as somebody asking you to justify why you won’t work for free.

It looks like senior management finally chimed in here.

Like others here, I have turned off my notifications and won't be using SA anymore. Member since 2011.

Well, I am sure there are other pages to read articles. Do you think that the articles will increase in quality with this new policy?, I dont think so, they'll have all the incentives to just keep the quality or even reduce it while collecting the new fees. Really anoying....good bye SA!.

Uggg.... this really sucks!!!! You took away the only good part of your site.  Bad move IMO and SA has no value going forward.... $99 to find info just a click away???? Please let us know when you decide to let Users know you are moving back to the original "Basic Services Platform"  via "Notification" .... unlike how you just cut us off.

Guess I'll move on to other services unless we can reduce the charge, 99$ a year is too expensive

interesting. my article limit notie states: $119 and notes its a "special price". time to go...

yeah, a $250 a year subscription, to justify that your articles would have to net the user multiples of that and they simply don’t.

Most investors on here might get under 1000 in dividends each year. The free articles on here (because the good ones are behind the paywall of authors already) simply do not justify this price.

do reconsider this change as I will be disabling my notifications and will find a new higher quality source of news and analysis.

But they already didn’t work for free. Do you seriously believe they don’t take a cut from the paywall the authors put their articles behind?

SA is a simple gateway for news and analysis, nothing more, nothing less.

I would agree with you if they:

  1. Had of announced 21 months ago
  2. They made it clear haw many free articles you will get in a month
  3. They did not all of sudden 21 months later, say, "oh by the way, you reached your limit," when for many of this had never happened over the 21 months.

It is a muddled launch at best and should be clarified.

agreed. obviously not getting enuff premium users nor ad vertisers to suit. if they need the money/new biz model to continue, then they should state that. this looks like delayed "bait n switch". i would note that this oct has been among my lowest usage months in my SA usage history n since x/2021. So its curious that this "limit" policy has been in place 21 months.

Same thing happened to me after 4+ years. Time to reset by deleting account and app and use another service.
