My Interactive brokers portfolio appears to be empty

One month ago i noticed that Seeking Alpha was not importing the latest updates from Interactive Brokers. I followed the advice to re-link the broker and now it say that my portfolio is empty.

It seems that the integration between Seeking Alpha and Interactive Brokers has some issues.

I had the same issue just now.

It links but informs that the account is empty.

Interactive Brokers customers in Europe or in Asia, do not use the ".com" but other (in my case the co.uk one).

I was wondering if if this is the issue.

The Plaid website for troubleshooting is useless. I tried to register myplaid to at least delete any data that they may have there but they only accept US or Dutch mobile numbers. So, I end up without linked portfolio and with my credentials on a website that would not let me create an account.

At least I am on trial. I have time to see if this is a dealbraker for me.

I believe it has to do with 2-factor authentication. I had a similar problem with Venmo that has a documented issue with 2FA. For Venmo I temporarily disabled it on my bank account and now it works fine. SA uses the same sync service Venmo does (Plaid)  so I suspect that’s the problem but I haven’t confirmed it (by disabling 2FA).

I ended up entering my portfolio manually, it’s quite easy to do. I don’t care if it tracks the current value as I was more interested in the research and news articles.

On SA importing a portfolio is a 2 step process. First it imports your accounts. In this step it prompts for your confirmation code. It imports your portfolio in the second step it. I’m guessing it attempts to login to the account a second time, but doesn’t prompt for the code on this attempt. The result is an empty portfolio.

For more information on Plaid and 2FA see this entry on Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/venmo/comments/o1e6ua/wells_fargo_plaid_and_2fa_issues/.

everything was fine until it broke. I didn't change anything in the security settings. SA support said that the problem is that IB has changed the format but they are already working on it. it's been 2 weeks... i'm a paying user here.

I have the same issue:

- Stopped syncing.

- Deleted the profile and re-linked, the portfolio was empty.

- Tried several times deleting and re-linking, then it started working, but will not sync correctly

- So I deleted the profile, now I can't seem to link it back even though I tried several times

This is with IBK

My eTrade sync stopped working more than 12 months ago and I can't get it to work, it seems due to 2FA.

It is very frustrating. One of the key reason why I use Seeking Alpha is to get real time inputs on my portfolio. If it does not sync, then that objective is not met.
